Cigna (NYSE: CI) is a global health service company dedicated to helping people improve their health, well-being and sense of security. They offer an integrated suite of health services, such as medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy and vision care benefits, and other related products including group disability, life, and accident coverage.

For more than 200 years, Cigna and its predecessor companies have been in the insurance field. In 1792, a group of Philadelphia citizens formed the Insurance Company of North America (INA), the first marine insurance company in the United States. In 1865, the Governor of Connecticut signed a special law creating Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CG). In 1982, Cigna was formed through the combination of INA Corporation and Connecticut General Corporation.

Optional Riders/Coverage

In addition to their individual and family health plans, CIGNA offers the following supplemental coverages:

Dental Insurance – Cigna offers 3 dental plans to choose from in all 50 states and D.C. They can be written separately or in combination with Cigna health plans in the states where Cigna offers health plans.

Accident Insurance – In the event of an accident, these plans can help you cover out-of-pocket costs. Some plans pay cash in addition to any plan benefits already in place.

Critical Illness Insurance – These plans offer coverage for 15 critical conditions such as cancer, heart attack or stroke. Upon diagnosis of a covered condition, you’ll receive a lump-sum cash payment.  If you have a health plan, critical illness insurance will provide benefits in addition to your other coverage.
